I belive I heard or read somehwere that there was a law, still on the books in Texas that if you are released from jail after 30 days you can demand a horse and a rifle and they have to give it to you. Is this a true law?

Hm. We had a discussion about something like this a while ago (not a problem if you didn't find it, it's prolly in the archives by now), apparently somebody committed a very minor offence, got himself put into jail for a night and on his release in the morning demanded a horse, six bullets and a gun. He knew (more than the local law enforcement did) that such a law was still on the statutes. Well, they looked up the law and saw that the man was right, so they gave him a clapped-out pony which couldn't take his weight, a pistol with the firing pin removed, and six bullets that were the wrong calibre for the gun... then promptly had the law repealed!
I forget where that happened, though; it could very well still be sitting on the statutes in some Texas outpost.

Yes I think that was the same one Dippy. The law was removed after that incident, which BTW happened not too long ago.
