I don´t know is this so dumb law but here smoke/fire alarm/detectors are mandatory on every apartment.

Well, personally I think this is quite good law.

Over here, it's not mandatory, AFAIK. But we have such a great smoke alarm, that if you're cooking food in the kitchen downstairs, the fire alarm in the attic goes...
(could also mean that we have a lot of smoke, when cooking... :wink )

And I didn´t afford the alarm by myself. The owner of real estate must to afford smoke alarm to every apartment and my real estate is Kontulan Kiinteistöt and owner of Kontulan Kiinteistöt is City of Helsinki. So City payed my smoke alarm :D

The problem isn't a cheap smoke detector. It's a cheap kitchen ventalator.

OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration--US national) has madated that all reclining office chairs have five legs to prevent tip over.

I think OSHA is in cahoots (in league) with the Chinese Chair Manufacturers' Association! Nobody in America is making any office chairs!

This is actually one of the smarter recent laws.. If there's a fire in my neigbour's apartment it won't be long before it gets through to mine. And there should definately be a law to protect me from stupid neighbours, not just if they're too dumb to get a fire alarm.
Pity the law against stupid neighbours probably would be unconstitutional.. :wink
