But I have to rant, at what I think are some dumb laws...

I live in Brunswick, Maine, and in my state, here are a few of the things that are illegal to have in/on your vehicle:

Any aftermarket fog lights, exterior lights of any kind. (Example, neon, exterior driving lights) fines of up to $150 for this offence.
Clear tail lights, even though the bulb is changed so that when the brakes are applied, it's still red, fines up to $150.
Tires extending more then 1/2" out of the fenders, fines $?, but your vehicle will not pass inspection.
Windows tinded more then 35%. In states such as California alow windows to be limo black, as far as I know, Maine is the only state in which you cannot darken your windows to the point where it's actually noticeble.
They are implamenting laws now that will enable law enforcement to pull over and fine anyone with a sterio that the officer can hear outside the vehicle. I don't know about you, but when my father drives in the yard with his windows down, you can hear him from inside the house, it's foolish to punish people for enjoying they're music.

Ok, I'm done http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif

Those do seem a bit stupid.

This will most likely be moved to state laws.

Sounds a bit dense to me too, aside from the stereo thing which is too harsh, but does make some sense for anyone who has tried to revise with a rudeboy parked outside with his stereo making unnecessary thumping noises the whole time!

I can relate to the stereo blasting. I have people that come to visit the neighbors and they blast me out when they drive by and I have the doors and windows closed. Here in Florida they don't like the tint to be but a certain percentage either. The law wants to be able to see in your vehicle.

Yes I am moving this to the state laws.

What's SPL Competition...(im partially retarded I'll get a brain fart in a few minutes)

Around here, i'm in southern CA and people drive with hydrolic's sometimes and lots of the tires do stick out too, like monster trucks, the tires are huge, so i dont really understand the laws, maybe the laws are different here, I dont know http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/wink.gif

Ada, I know just what you mean, when they sit like right infront your house with it thumping, It can get annoying specially when your kids are finally taking there nap and you have time to relax and they get woken up by it!*GGGrrrrrrrr*

I'll agree with noise levels from car stereos-when I'm in my living room, I'd rather not hear the base levels from some morons car stereo.

Insofar as the other things mentioned in this post, hydraulics, lights, etc., where does the government have anything to say about them unless they affect safety? Methinks the sate's just looking for a little ticket revenue...

As for the stereo, I don't mind the ones driving by my house as much but, when the car sits at the stop sign for two or three minutes while this idiot adjusts their sunglasses, I tend to get upset.
On clear lenses; the ones I've seen have, actually, made it easier to see the light from the taillights and turn signals. So long as the light bulbs are changed. I've seen two trucks in my town with the clear lenses and bulbs. They got pulled over about four times before they changed the bulbs. Neon under car kits have been banned in a few places and the only reason I've been given is, in most cases the local govt. feels that any blue, red, orange or yellow lights, other than the factory markers, are too close to the emergency services lights. (here's where I'd insert one of the little smiley faces with the rolling eyes, if i knew how)
The fog lights are ify, at best. Some people need them in the bad weather, others think they need them all the time.
Tinted windows, as Idnew stated, is so that the officers can see inside the vehicle. I have no problem with that. I have nothing to hide. Cooling the car doesn't require super dark windows. There is no reason to have them any darker than, maybe 20%. Limo black is 5%, or only five percent of the light is transmitted through the tint, ridiculous for street cars. The safety factor is there too. The darker the windows the harder it is to see the other cars and pedestrians.
Tires extending more than one half of an inch past the fenders is so that anything like rain or mud doesn't get slung up into traffic behind you. I don't know about that one anymore. I think there are too many tailgaters in the world anyway, maybe this would back them off a bit.

Basically it's seeing how high you can build the pressure in a car by cramming as many speakers as possible and turning up the volume. To put it simply.

Clear lenses on turn signals and brake lights can actually make them easier to see in northern climates like mine (Milwaukee, WI) where the salt that's put down on the roads can block the light rays after the salt splashes up on the lenses.

I truly believe that a lot of these ground effects, lights, etc. on cars are silly, but they don't affect my safety as a motorist. Police resources should be put to much better use- (Like patrolling my neighborhood once in a while for instance! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/confused.gif ) Calling people on bad decorating should be left to Martha Stewart and her ilk...

It's the American Way for young folks to modify their rides and for the Establishment to use equipment laws to pull them over. In my day we used to jack up the rear end so we could fit big tires under there without bottoming out on the wheel wells, install glass pack mufflers for a ballsy exhaust rumble, and put a "suicide knob" on the steering wheel so we could corner with one hand. The cops were forever pulling us over to measure our rear bumper height, check the mufflers, and look for an illeagal suicide knob. Somehow these equipment checks involved shining a flashlight directly in our eyes. It's good to know the game's still going on even though my playing days are over.

Some of us still like glass packs. I got pulled over for what the officer said was open headers. It wasn't much better, I have the Thrush Magnums that bolt straight to the header flange. Man, when I want them to, they can scream. Comes in handy when getting back at the guys with more subwoofers than brains. ARRR!

I think Colorado has a law against tinting windows too. Not sure about that though.

My band got arrested in Lake Tahoe, California for exceeding the 90db maximum noise level. The cops measured it from a block away, and their meter read 96db. Our drummer got extra charges of indecent exposure filed against him because he mooned the cops when they said we were under arrest.

It's not so bad if it's a gig or something. If you live next to a venue, you have to expect a bit of noise!

Woolly jumper - jersey, sweater, made of knitted sheep's wool, beloved of English folk singers who put one finger in their ear and sing through their nose, usually about fishing/mining disasters or beer. Hiya Ax Slinger, you ol' folky devil you! What's your gauge? Ernie Ball 10's and Jim Dunlop .60mm?

I have a pair of those Jesus sandals, pretty comfy to wear in the summertime!

But when I think of a wooly jumper I think of "the three little pigs" and the wolf that dressed up like a lamb!

i'm the kid with the loud stereo, and the way i see it is if my sterio is to loud maybe you should move. i mean i don't complain about the trains running through town or the big rigs and thier jack brakes being to loud or the neighbors dog barking all hours of the night. i have enough sence to turn it down like at 8 pm. during the day in town when there is an old man is chasing me and yelling at the top of his lungs to turn it down 2 things happen. 1 i tell him if he doesn't like it quit following me and 2 the speakers take all they can as loud as they can http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif
