Legalizing it under conditions is the best way to fight crime and STD's. So legalize it, I say. Besides that, prostitution is not the end of the world.

Prostitution has been going for thousands of years..it is the world's oldest occupation....for example many of the Egyptian pharoahs paid for the service of prostitutes back then.
Did it kill them or destroy the Egyptian empire?
No......
So let Prositution be legal.....but no brothels.....

Members of suspected prostitution ring remanded in Varkaus
Police ask clients to come forward as witnesses
Police in Varkaus and Kuopio say that an extensive prostitution ring had managed to acquire hundreds of male customers in both Eastern Finnish cities and their surroundings since March this year.
On Wednesday, an Estonian woman and her Finnish husband were remanded in custody, charged with pimping.
The main suspects in the case include a Varkaus man born in 1962 and three Estonian women. Police are also looking into the possible involvement of a second Finnish man.
Police have also issued arrest warrants for two Estonian women. Police believe that dozens of women - mainly from Estonia, and a few from Poland - worked for the ring. The business was conducted in at least seven apartments in both cities.
The police began their investigation on the basis of a tipoff in early November.
The main male suspect is believed to have earned more than EUR 16,000 since the operation was launched in March.
Police in Varkaus have the telephone numbers of many of the men who bought sex services from the group, and they are now urging these customers to come forward as witnesses in the case.
"Buying sex is not a crime, and it is certainly much more pleasant for the men to contact us, than for us to call them at home about it", says Jyrki Haapala of the Varkaus police.

Well... I don't know... just where the hell is the Great Egyptian Civilization today? :D
I guess it's all in how you view sex. Some see it as a feel-good equivalent to a haircut or a massage-- a service that is done to you by others.
I think that view cheapens the humanity of it all.
People like to refer to prostitution as a "victimless crime." I say most prostitutes ARE "victims."

Agreed. Victims abound in this supposedly "victimless" crime. Have you ever known a "happy" hooker who had been on the job for a long time? Especially "street hookers.
When you sell your flesh, you also include a piece of your soul. :cry

When you sell your flesh, you also include a piece of your soul. :cry While I would never use the services of a prostitute (never needed to :wink ), prostitution is at least partly about the law of supply and demand. Men want sex, and women can provide it (tho' male prostitutes exist... what a job!). I agree that it cheapens the humanity of it all, and that you sell part of your soul, but...
...but it's going to go on no matter what, so surely having it above board and regulated will encourage responsible behaviour among prostitutes and their clients? Regular health checks, codes of practice, and so on will at least keep people clean.
In an ideal world there would be no need for prostitutes or their services, but it isn't an ideal world. Many jobs are soul-destroying.
Did you hear about the Australian brothel (it's legal but regulated there) which was visited by pretty much the entire crew of a US Navy ship? All the girls were literally shagged out after a couple of days, and they had to shut up shop while they recuperated!

The fact that 95% of all hookers were sexually/physically abused as kids tells you something, doesn't it? Like maybe it isn't about sex--it's about damaged psyches. And the Johns are simply enabling the situation by financing it.
Legalize it if you want to, but don't justify it by saying "it's human nature".

All this tells me is that men have little or no self control. You know, there is always Rosy Palm and her four daughters if you just absolutely have to "get" there.:wink :p
If more men knew how to think with their brain, instead of their "head", maybe the poor damaged people who end up in this type of life would have a chance.
As it stands, fat chance!

Better keep prostitution legal. Prostitutes are almost victims of criminal groups and pimps. They are not criminals self...

It's been legal in Germany & other countries for years. Does anyone know of any problems it has caused in countries where it's legal?
I say make it legal but make sure they are all good looking because I don't want to see no old fat hoes..:cool

Well turn out the lights and take your specks off and then you won't have to "see" them. Same could be said for the old fat wo seekers you know.

So I take it you would have no problem with your sister or your daughter becoming a prostitute, in fact if they expressed an interest in that vocation I'm sure you would encourage them. After all, there's nothing wrong with being a prostitute. It's the world's oldest profession.
If I'm mistaken, explain to me why you wouldn't want your daughter to become a prostitute.
