View Full Version : Switzerland - why so dumb?

Can someone please explain to me why the following "dumb laws" under Switzerland is so dumb:
The highest speed allowed on national freeways is 120 km/h.
It is required that every car with snow tires has to have a sticker on its dashboard which tells that the driver should not drive faster than 160 km/h with these tires

I like swizterland, I tend to drive fast, I guess swiss is my kind of country. If drive fast with snow tires, I guess it would damage snow tires and road. It cost too much to repave the road or freeway.

Interesting, but that doesn't really explain what's so dumb about the laws.

I also don't see what's dumb with that. I prefer to drive faster than 120, but almost every state knows speed limits.

Also it's kinda dumb to have a sticker telling you not to drive over 160km with snow tyres when the limit is 120km anyway.

Not really that dumb. The sticker is advisory. For one thing, speed limits don't stop people speeding and its good to warn people if the car is likely to be dangerous at a certain speed.
Also, the Swiss could drive over the border to Germany where there is no speed limit, in which case the sticker is pretty necessary if you ask me.

The sticker makes sense. My Dad is driving a BMW 528 and he also got a 160 button for his winter tires. It makes sense as in the northern parts of Germany you usually don't have snow that often and you could drive faster. It isn't that dangerous for my Dad as he doesn't drive that fast, but if I'd drive his car it is good that something reminds me to control the speed.
