View Full Version : Best American president ever?

Who do you think is the best American president ever? And why?

(I've kept Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, jr out of the poll options, for the same reason as in the "Worst American president ever?"-poll)

I'd have to say your polls are flawed in that you are giving limited choices, thus skewing the results. Also neither poll contains all of the same names. Without a comprehensive list of names the polls only show a part of an overall picture, thus making them invalid. :D

And it's also inevitable that the lists for best and worst would be different. Who would vote for Ulysses S Grant or Warren G Harding in a Best Prez poll?

Agree with B-juice and DeadTexan. You should stick to your "cut and paste". At least it offers more.

How can I put the names of ALL US presidents so far on the poll if the poll has a maximum of 10 options? I had to make a selection anyhow, so I selected on most loved presidents from 1789 to 1993. Not a completely fair selection ground, but the best possible under these circumstances.

"Most loved"?? By whose standards? The Dutch schoolboy? Come on, cut and paste some more. I bet you can even color inside the lines. Don't quit on me now.

Come on, Dave. You are the last person of whom I would expect this childish behaviour. No come on, get off of that swing and go play the adult man that you are. You know you can do it.

And if I would have gone by personal opinions, I would have put Carter and Taft on that list. But they're not. I would have kept James Monroe and Zachary Taylor off the list. But they're on the list.

He has no posts. Only reprints from other peoples work. You, are original. Quite evident. Cut/paste...limited/useless/laughable polls based on a contracted view are extreme amusement which most will egg on to see more, but enough is enough.

This is like talking to a wall. Dave has been away for a while, and thought that upon coming back, he'd better adopt the "Maderic"-style, that has worked ever so "well" (i.e. almost got him kicked out).
Dave, be a bit more original, will you? Stop licking Maderic, and get back to playing mature. Makes you and your posts ever more relevant. Because this way you're only outqualifying yourself for DL.

Well, if I was ever close to being "kicked out" I'm glad you told me now. Didn't know that you were a mod, Phreak. Are you? Actually, if you understood "work", that is what I've been doing. And I was IN Europe last month as part of a group to tackle a toxic problem. Enough with the " Holier than the world attitude".
Europe is the same as the US. But, tell me about my getting close to being kicked out. Now that you seem to be a self imposed mod,
I'm sure that you can push your GOD button and delete all of this. I'd better stop now as I must be wasting my time as you, as a mod, will delete all of this.

Read his post, Dave. He wrote that maderic (aka T.A.F.K.A.M.) was closed to be kicked out, not you.

And I have to agree with Phreak on this one. What happened to the old Weldordave. The one with the good points and clever arguments. The one who was fun to be around and a challenge to discuss with. The one who made good posts and didnt just write "what about yourself. You were much worse in the past"
Lets have that one back.

And maderic: You seem to think that everyone presenting the same views as you, are original, wise people who you respect. That is not free thinking. That is imprisoned thinking.

History: why do you think I'm studying History?

Politics: I'm somewhat fascinated by politics in general. I don't know if it's a proper English term, but we call it a "hate-love-affair". I'm fascinated by politics, so Dutch politics, English, but also American.

Well said, K-lib.

I AM a moderator and not a self-appointed one, so heads up you lot.

Please stick to the topic, all of you. If, for whatever reason, you think the topic's not valid then don't post in the thread - is that clear and simple enough? Mudslinging doesn't help anybody, and only makes the board look bad.

Perhaps there's a lurker out there who has some insightful comments to make on the topic - if you were that lurker, would you want to jump into this moshpit?

For the record, I was poking at Phreak in jest. It wasn't meant to be taken serious hences ":D" at the end of my original post.
Maybe it was in poor taste so I apologize for that.
As for the bickering. Its over.
Step back, drink a beer, coke, milk whatever and calm down.

Most loved presidents meaning the ones that have the longest entries in the encyclopedia. Right, Phreak?

Noup, meaning the ones with the highest continuous approval rate.

You know how old this is getting to be? Really really old. I have dates to keep, guys to meet, parties to attend to and don't have time for all this bickering.

Now a better topic would have been who is your favorite president and why.

And since this hasn't stuck to topic I will now close it.
