The "other" thread dealt with the US alone. But there are more countries in the world than the US. (Don't take that sentence as a flame, guys, it wasn't meant that way.)

So should burning the flag of one's nation be illegal?

(I'm not talking about protests of angry muslims burning American and Israeli flags, I'm talking about citizens burning the flags of the nation they belong to.)

There are only 2 "reasons" for burning a flag.

When it has been despoiled (touch the ground, etc) and its disposed of in a proper ceremony.

The second is an act of defiance/protest/whathave you. That I feel should be illegal.

And no semantic word games Phreak. No "burning is burning" because they both involve fire because. Its different.

EDITED for spelling

I think really all the arguments are in the other thread so no need to repeat them here.

Your flag is your country as far as I'm concerned and if your flag is burned other than for it being spoiled or worn out then to me that is a protest to your country, government whatever......your government is your country, the people are the country so any burning is a protest to that

You forgot one: keep warm.
I'm not saying it is normal or anything, but it is possible to burn a national flag, if every other option lacks, in order to keep warm on these cold winter days.

...or when a house burns down and a flag is in it.

...or when the Dutch space shuttle has a catastrophic fuel tank failure and explodes in a giant fireball... and the flag is within it...

...or my SUV catches on fire and the 35 gallons of gasoline catch fire and the American flag I had attached to the car is burnt.

...or...

Just more word games, Phreak. Originally, I thought you were a pretty bright guy. My opinion has changed a bit.

IMO, you need to learn a little "critical thinking." I'll see if I can find a website for you to check out.

Um......Sinecure..........you forgot something.......there are no Dutch space shuttles.......

I believe all flag burning should be illegal........I'm the one who voted "It's a form of treason"......because it is.....It is treason.....and the people who commit such an autrocity, are traitors, and deserve the same treatment as traitors.....(ie.....death)

Who needs burning?

It should be nice if someone: eats, rips or just paints a flag.
