View Full Version : Russia and Drinking....

Did you know that in Russia you are not legally drunk until you can no longer stand with or without someone holding you up? In other words, you can have a person on each side of you holding you up and you are still not legally drunk. I thought that was one that you would like to know... http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif

Welcome to dumb laws. Heck, I wouldn't consider myself drunk unless I couldn't stand up http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/tongue.gif .

I far as I know, that is not true...
If a policeman suspect that you are drunk (legally: that you may harm yourself or others because of drunkeness), you may be taken to special "drunk house" in order to get sober- if fact, you are arrested, because this is not a medical institution, but a police-maintained one (and try to prove, that you were not drunk).
Some men which are cheating their wives bribe those policemen to receive a document that they spent the nigth in the above-mentioned institution- that's an excuse why you haven't return home for so the whole nigth http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif
Also, if any amount of alcohol is found in the blood of driver, he is considered to be drunk: so if you sniffed an empty bottle of beer, you are drunk and cannot drive.
Of course, reality often has nothing in common with the law.

Yes... in fact it IS true... I have spoken to more than one American CHRISTIAN that has lived in Russia. They have seen people drunk and falling over on the streets and told policemen about it and the police said that they were perfectly legal. This was in Moscow, Tver(sp?!?), Rybinsk, and Uglich. I don't know whether it is different city to city though because I haven't visited ALL Russian cities.

Dear scoozie2003, ask your friends about "vitrezvitel" (where drunks are brougth in order to get sober).
If policemen do not care about drunks in the streats, that DOES NOT mean that being dead-drunk is legally allowed- that's Russia, you know... Simply they don't care, and that's all.
when i was in Russia, the thing that shocked me was: drunks lying in the middle of a road (I saw this in one small town). This is dangerous when it is dark, however this is normal to locals- they simply move those drunks off the road and leave them to sleap (there was no "vitrezvitel" in the town I am talking about).

It is like that in many countries in Europe, a zero promille limit for driving! Especcially in the Eastern countries, which surprises me a lot, since they aren't really famous for being well developed with functioning laws etc... Sweden is actaully one of the last countries in Europe where it's legal to talk in a cellphone while you're driving... And we're usually first with the new laws...

What a funny statement! Do you really think so? I'm a lawyer in Russia and let me inform you that it just sounds funny to me!

Here the limit is 0,5 promilles and if you have more than 1,2 promilles you are guilty for felonious DUI.
