View Full Version : Parents must support adult kids....

April 6th, 2002, 05:38 PM
ROME (Reuters) - In a ruling that has sent a shiver down many parents' spines, Italy's highest appeals court has decreed that fathers must carry on supporting adult children until they find a job to their liking.

Psychologists warned that the decision could discourage people from having children in a country whose birthrate is already one of the lowest in the world, while commentators said it could boost Italy's already high unemployment rate.

The case revolves around a wealthy family in the southern city of Naples, where the father is still paying some $680 a month in maintenance to a son who is in his 30s and has a university law degree.

The son also has a trust fund worth some $220,000, lives in one of the smartest parts of the city, and has turned down several job offers.

But the court ruled that the father, Giuseppe Andreoli, who is a former parliamentarian and a respected Neapolitan medic, should carry on supporting his estranged son. "You cannot blame a young person, particularly from a well-off family, who refuses a job that does not fit his aspirations. The parents have to pay for their upkeep," said the court in a verdict handed down earlier this week.

Andreoli said on Friday he was shocked by the decision.

"I feel disgust for a country that I love. It wasn't always like this," he told Reuters.

This is just plain sickening. I heard about it this morning. This exactly fits the policy of Berlusconi (the son of a b*tch). Rich people can do whatever they please, poor people can be forced to do work they don't want to do, or which even harms them. Rich people have the right to refuse any job, poor people live in a constant fear of losing the job, thnx to Marco Biaggi and Silvio Berlusconi. Hurray to capitalism.
The French revolution was for liberty, equality and brotherhood. It looks as tho people have forgotten the last 2 words (equality and brotherhood).
Long live the segregation of rights... Bipartition of justice....

That son has such a sickening attitude. He wants to be able to afford himself the luxury of refusing jobs, but he doesn't want to feel the consequences (not having an income). If he doesn't want a job, he should also feel the consequence. That judge should really be like impeached or something (I know it's not possible, but ****, in cases like this it oughta be).
If the son wants the right to refuse jobs, he should also feel the consequences.

Oh that's BS. What about the bums that come from poor familes that still sponge of their parents if the parents are stupid enough to let them. Course then again you could look it like that's what you deserve for raising such lazy children and probably giving them everything they wanted.
