Some New Jersey legislator wants to make paintball illegal for minors to play, unless they're in a designated paintball park. Imagine this: the owner of a paintball park is backing the legislator on this.

The proposal was sparked by a recent assault committed with a paintball gun.

People commit assaults with rocks. But do they ban rocks? Baseball bats? Window panes? Frying pans? Purses? Give me a break. Paintball is a good game too, and people's backyards can be a lot better than paintball parks; they're more convenient, a he11 of a lot cheaper, and easily customized. A few things to do now: Ban that one paintball park into bankruptcy and get the NRA on the bandwagon.

As with most hazardous activities, paintball should be regulated when it comes to minors.

I've been hit with a paintball on the upper arm. Even through a heavy sweatshirt and a denim workshirt, it hurt like heck, and left a substiantial and long-lasting bruise. I'd hate to get hit in the face/eye/throat with one. At 300 feet-per-second, they are not toys. Kits to "soup up" most brands of standard paintball guns are available. I've heard that they can get them to around 500 fps. Any faster, and the paintballs disintegrate upon exiting the gun. ...not so with frozen paintballs, they can be deady.

At least there is some measure of "control" at a supervised paintball park. It would be easier to enforce mask, protective gear, and gun power requirements.

I seriously doubt that the NRA would want minors having unrestricted access to paintball equipment... no more than they want minors to have unrestricted access to firearms, or high-powered airguns.
