Okay this may sound silly to some but some of my co workers really beileve this law.. I live in Iowa and just recently I heard of this law that was passed July 1, 2003 here are some of the details..
If you are a single parent you are not allowed to live with some one unless you are married to that person. second part of this law is that if DHS comes in and sees that you are living with a SO then they can yank the child/ren out of the home? or the non custodial parent can come in and take full custoday automaticlly..
Just a question to those have you heard of this new so called law that prevents single parents to live with some one other then a husband or wife??
Thank you all
Jennifer

They can do whatever they want but that doesn't sound logical for them to make that law. As long as that child is well cared for and not abused by the live in mate then what darn difference does it make if they are married or not. Living together seems to be more common these days anyway. Cheaper than a divorce when you kick them out.

I guess they could make a law like that but it may not stand up in court.. I'm thinking it won't but then again you never know... :cool

A bill that could have caused single parents to lose custody of their children if they chose to live with their boyfriends or girlfriends will not be considered by the Iowa House this year.

House File 64 stated that if a child is exposed to a "cohabiting intimate partner," that is grounds for a judge to review custody of a child.

The bill cleared the House Human Resources Committee in February but will not go any further, Rep. Dan Boddicker, R-Tipton, the bill's floor manager, said Thursday.

Several studies have shown that fatal child abuse is much more likely when there is a live-in boyfriend. Boddicker saw the bill as a tool to prevent abuse.

But the bill drew controversy from single parents and Democrats, who called it legislating morality and a means for harassment and turning children into bouncing balls between two parents.

The reason the bill won't be considered this year is technical, Boddicker said. Legal definitions used in the bill were the same as those used in alimony cases. Boddicker said this wouldn't work for cohabitation, which at times involves shorter-term relationships.
