Have to move the Judges' topic to EE.....now ain't that a pity. http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif
I don't hunt, but know people that do. Deer mostly. Me personally I couldn't go out and kill anything, but I can't say that I won't eat the deer meat as long as I never saw the deer.
I don't see where it would have any drawbacks as long as the law is opeyed and of course the benifits are the food. I can't see killing just for the fur or whatever.

The Scottish Parliament has just passed a law banning hunting with hounds. Foxes are the main quarry, which are hunted neither for food nor fur, but just for pleasure.
The hunters' argument used to be that they are killing a countryside pest. This is a transparent lie, hunting with hounds is a remarkably inefficient use of manpower. Send in a team of guys with guns and systematically wipe them out, if you want to get rid of them. On the other hand, those who control these hunts do a lot for conservation, such as woodland management (establishing an environment that foxes like to live in... so perhaps they're not pests after all? :confused http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif which is beneficial to a wide range of wildlife species...
...except the foxes, of course, who mostly live in cities now anyway.
I don't have any problem with hunting for food, or for genuine pest control.

I have hunted in the past and would again if given the oppertunity. I hunt for food. If I can't eat it, I don't shoot it. I kill, clean, and process myself. I will also take donations from other hunters that have filled their own freezers yet enjoy the aspects of the hunt itself.
I do not agree with trophey hunting/fishing. It really p!sses me off to watch these guys like Rowland Martin go out and catch fish and return them. Heh you were lucky to catch it in the first place. Put him on the table for dinner I say.
Deer, duck, dove, quail, (although it takes a potload of those to make a meal for one) froglegs, squirrel, as long as its put on the table

I personally love to hunt and fish. It's the suburban and "country" homes, the golf courses, the shopping malls, the marinas, etc. that are ruining the woods and waters. Not the hunters and fisherpeople.
