"Central North Island farmers say they have the general public to thank for the Government's back-track on the controversial flatulence tax.
Farmers and members of the public took the Government to task after it announced in June it would charge them a levy for emissions research on stock.
During a protest in Wellington, National MP Shane Ardern drove a tractor on to the steps of Parliament to drive the point and was charged by police over the incident.
This week the Government backed down, saying significant progress was being made in the agriculture sector on a science plan and funding research on greenhouse gas emissions from farms. "
