Seeking a new emphasis, Dean touts his Christianity
Southern campaign plans to increase religious references
By Sarah Schweitzer, Globe Staff, 12/25/2003
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Presidential contender Howard B. Dean, who has said little about religion while campaigning except to emphasize the separation of church and state, described himself in an interview with the Globe as a committed believer in Jesus Christ and said he expects to increasingly include references to Jesus and God in his speeches as he stumps in the South.
Dean, 55, who practices Congregationalism but does not often attend church and whose wife and children are Jewish, explained the move as a desire to share his beliefs with audiences willing to listen. His comments came as a rival, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, chastised other Democrats for forgetting ''that faith was central to our founding and remains central to our national purpose.''

It's fine with me, Wunch. Fine with me.
Asked whether a presidential candidate could win without talking about religious faith, Dean said, "Dick Nixon and Ronald Reagan never said much about religion. I think it's important, and you have to respect other people's religious beliefs and honor them, but you don't have to pander to them."
He added, "That's why I don't get offended when George Bush or Joe Lieberman talk about their religion . . . I have a feeling it has something to do with them as a human being, and they are entitled to talk about what makes them human."
He's insane! Outta control! What a kook!
So Dean's a "hypocrite"...making accusations without providing proof now, are we? Credible proof, anyway.

Hey - I give him credit for using his head. He is after all trying to get some votes in a country with a majority of religous citizens.
Do you honestly think Bill clinton carried a Holy Bible around to read? :lol
Someone must have told Dean about the people he wants to lead.
A typical poll:
Religious Preference % June 1996
Christian 84
Jewish 1
Muslim 1
Other non-Christian 1
Atheist Agnostic 2
Something else (SPECIFY) 2
No preference 8
Don't know/Refused 1

Yeppers we are.
The south seems to have churches every mile. This town I live in is full of them and acts so holier than thou that I quit going to church. I refuse to be one way in church and sipping my liquor when I am not in church. Now if they would put a bottle in the church kitchen I might start going back.:lol Don't drink wine that much.....lol which is all that's in the kitchen

Yeah. And how many of those alleged 84% do you think live by the teachings of Christ?
Christ was a frikken liberal. :lol The south doesn't really see that, they have fallen prey to the rightward inclination of organized religion (which isn't necessarily all that Jesusy these days, it's way too self-righteous and judgemental).
Yeah Dean's gotta suck up. He's a politician. Just like Bush sucked up to most Americans when he pledged, "I'm a uniter, not a divider". Which we all know at this point was a pretty good prank.
Bush is kind of the neo-con Ashton Kutcher. :)

They might not live by them, but they sure vote along party lines.

"RACE, GUNS, GOD AND GAYS.” HOWARD DEAN, the frontrunner for the 2004 Democratic Presidential nomination, in November told a Tallahassee audience that Southerners must stop basing their votes on these four issues.
But when he campaigns this week in South Carolina, whose primary vote comes February 2 immediately after New Hampshire’s, Dean plans to bring Jesus into nearly every speech.
Dean made it clear, however, that he would be discussing his Christian faith only in Southern states, the states he stereotyped two months ago as being full of rednecks with Confederate flags on their pickup trucks.
What blood sucking politician this guy is.No different from those he acuses.
