View Full Version : Says It All

THIS DOES SAY IT ALL!!!

After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her drivers license with her face covered, I believe this is even more appropriate. Read on, please!

This is an Editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa Newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he?

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in
patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.

This idea of America being a multi cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is
clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really
don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle.

Our First Amendment gives every (CITIZEN) the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one
other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

"Not true. Atheist and agnostic MEN founded this country."

1.) You're quite apparently sexist. There was one woman (forgot who, I believe it was the wife of one of the more important founding fathers) contributed a lot to the founding of this coutnry that we would not have been able to be here today without.

2.) This country was founded by Christians on Christian principles, as Idnew said. Freedom of religion was given 'cos the founding fathers wanted the citizens to worship freely and however they wanted; the country they came from would only allow them to worship in a certain way, and religious freedom was one of their reasons for coming here.

Well, let me be the first to say that i totally disagree. Not that it is any of my business as I'm not american, but that hasnt stopped me before, and it wont stop me now:)
The text basically says that anyone who dislikes the american way of life (the patriotism, uncle Sam, stars and stripes etc) can just find somewhere else to live. That is extremely undemocratic. What about the those people, who has lived in America for generations. Is it just time for them to pack their bags and go somewhere to seek political asylum?
The text justifies this by saying that the majority of the population agree with the american lifestyle. That is not democracy. Democracy is more than just majority rules. It is also freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc, and there is no room for that in the text.

I find it quite amusing that the text said that USA has got its own language, and the stating that it is english (not spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian). Ever wondered why it is called english?

Sorry, Idenw, but I'm not with you on this one.

The writers of the U.S. Constitution were not all Christians. They were a bunch of hands-on businessmen, politicians, and political economists. They were also a mixed bag of Athiets, Agnostics, Christians, and Free Thinkers. The "In God We Trust" and "Under God" verbiage is a legacy of later times.

The Pilgrims on the Mayflower (much earlier) were a Christian sect fleeing religious persecution.

Welcome to my world, Sjax and Cleoeo.
That's right, the "In God We Trust" is less than 50 years old. It and the "Under God" part of the pledge of allegiance were attempts to bring religion back to schools. The old motto used to be "Don't tread on me."

No, I'm NOT sexist. I'm just pointing out that women had very little say in the creation of the nation (Hey, that rhymed :) ). Note - founding FATHERS.

Religious freedom was an important factor, dating back to the Pilgrims and Puritans. But the founding fathers, being "scientific" men for their day, were not particularly religious themselves.

I certainly agree that immigration is a good thing by and large; as the writer of the column noted, we are a nation of immigrants. In fact, I can only think of a few nations that have the multicultural mix that we do; Canada and Australia amongst them.

Bringing other cultures to our shores is a good thing; (makes for great restaurants and interesting neighborhoods for one thing.) but there are certain things we all have to comply with. By all measn share your culture with us, but don't get mad because the freeway signs aren't in Arabic!

As for the God thing, let's bear in mind that religion only played a small part in the founding of this nation-many of the Founding Fathers were deists; in short they believed in God but not organised religion.
