View Full Version : Graffiti "Artists"

Anyone caught "tagging" should be made to publicly remove grafitti from a prominant location while wearing diapers to indicate their maturity. The time and place would be posted in advance at all youth centers and clubs. Grrrr! "Artists" my butt!

You are right. It is a shame how little these "artists" care for other people's property. New buildings, even old castles - everything is full of this ugly scrawls. And if you catch one of them, they don't even feel like having done something wrong.

On the other hand, graffiti artists (no inverted commas) have brightened up many dull concrete urban messes. I can't stand the taggers, but those who take real pride in their work can turn out some excellent stuff, and sometimes get commissioned to do it. Which sort of takes away the pleasure...

I have seen some really ugly walls turned into something gorgeous to look at but then the junk stuff is really ugly.
What is a tagger? Somebody that just scrawls junk?

A "tagger" is someone who chooses a sign of sorts and spray paints it on walls, usually private property. These bums are quite a menace especially in urban areas. The most fascinating and overlooked fact about your average tagger is that by and large they are white, suburban, and upper middle class kids. Thus because their parents can afford legal counsel, the kids rarely spend time in jail. Compund that with Mom and Dad's disdain for the areas affected and you have someone with little or no remorse.
The diaper idea is a good one in my opinion.

When I was growing up I had a boyfriend who was a tagger, CBranski, you got it right on the money! He was white(half mexican)spoiled and upper middle class. Mom bought him expensive tagger clothes and all that stuff. I never understood why he wanted to spray paint all over the signs and stuff, he even told me to tag mine and his name or something. So I did, cause at the time I thought it as sweet, even put little hearts next to it!
Around here in the ghetto(LOL) there are no such thing as taggers, just gangbangers and the only thing they tag is there gang signs for territorial stupid reasons, but these are no where near the same thing as taggers!

Prison terms seem a little bit exaggerated for sprayers. I'd prefer a) a recognisable sum for a social institution, b) that they have to clean several paintings, c) do some work at a building site to recognise that it is a hard job to create buildings. Anyhow, the punishments in Germany for that aren't that high that you'd neccessarily need a lawyer (if you don't do it on and on again).

There is no graffiti art in Madison WI. Around here all they do is scrawl a bunch of gangbanger wannabe crap on the park benchs, utility boxes, street signs, etc. Looks terrible. And it is young middleclass white males doing it I guess. They've seen too many Spike Lee movies and rapper vidios; think it would be cool to live in the 'hood. White guys with their baseball caps on backwards and pants as big as circus tents.

The punishment should be British Army style: Make them scrape off all their paint with an old toothbrush.

ok i take insult in what cleoeo said cuz there is such a thing as graffiti art...yeah n i know that people r stupid enough to tag meaninless stuff on the walls..but graffiti artists have enough dencency to go and get allowed to paint art on the wall LEGALLY..and they draw beautiful art ...i mean BEAUTIFUL..i live in east L.A and theres alot of beautiful artwork..and then theres other cheap ugly tagging...we dont respect that but the nice artwork that graffiti artists put up r one of a kind....have u heard of Chaz Bojorquez? all of u should..hes been paid to do alot of stuff for movies and magazines...and now hes very well known and he works with art on the computer and still does his graffiti art which he is asked to do....so it depends if the person did it legally or illegally....cuz legally i respect..otherwise no!!! but some of my friends do alot of this and at theyre work they paint the walls...i think its great!!!! so no....u shoul only embarras them if they r doing it for some stupid reason but if theyre trying to beautify it...them allow them...if theyre doing it legally..cuz u can get a permit to do it legally u know

*lol* Most spray paint is permanent, so they would be kneeling in front of that wall for a long time.

I agree with you about the grafitti art Xicana, and to some extent I would miss the public toilet scrawlers too - I mean it's something to read innit! Fascinating how complicated some peoples love-lives are! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Strange, on men's toilets you only find how easy the love-life is... http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You must have very boring toilet graffiti-ists in Germany, ogb! I once had a protracted graffiti "discussion" with someone at university. We covered most of a wall discussing whether or not the possessive form of "it" has an apostrophe (it doesn't). To the best of my knowledge I never met whoever it was, but I won in the end... http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif Ho hum. It's a peculiar topic for graffiti but served its purpose. The guy never forgot his grammar lesson. I read this one in a stall at the UW Philosophy building:
God is love
Love is blind
Ray Charles is blind
therefore
Ray Charles is God.
I don't know if the scrawls of "taggers" are gramatically correct or witty, being illegible.

While we're venturing into Philosophy, do you remember Senator McCarthy's wonderful grasp of logic:
Communists are concerned with workers' rights
Fred (or whoever) is concerned with workers' rights
Therefore Fred is a communist
I prefer Ray Charles as God, but the logic is just as flawed! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif

Then of course there is the Stalinist "you do not agree with me, therefore you are mentally unstable and should be sent to Siberia" logic. http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I think the most philosophical graffiti I ever read was "life is a sexually transmitted disease". Depressing, but philosophical.
