View Full Version : My New Law!!

Here it is. The law I know you've all been waiting for. This is the one you're going to sign pettitions to have it put on the ballot to vote for it so your congressperson (or other representative if you're not from the States) will vote for it so the President (or head law maker in your country) will sign it into being!
Any company who says they will be shutting off your services on a certain day, and shuts it off earlier than said, must restore full service, AND the unpaid balance may NOT be collected. This means that, say a, I don't know, PHONE COMPANY, says that they are going to shut off the phone on, oh, June 30TH if the bill is not paid, but then the company decides to shut off the phone on, oh, let's say, the 26TH of June, then the one owing the bill can report the company, and the company will have to restore the phone, with Caller ID, & Call waiting (if those are applicable), for no charge. AND the company must give the customer the month that they owe for free!
Well, if you can make sense of it, tell me what you think!

oh oh good one! PLUS your phone company, should they decide to go bankrupt....MUST give 6 months notice and NOT leave it's customers to find out on their own accord....idiots, the worlds communications are in the hands of Idiots!!!

Sounds like you two have had phone trouble http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Can we add that if you decide to terminate your mobile contract, it is illegal for the company to keep sending you letters telling you how sorry they are that you've left them, but not paying back the three quid credit on your account (presumably because they've spent it on junk mail...)

And furthermore... said mobile company, when selling phone to customer in the first place, if it says that you get 12 months free service with the phone, and just pay for the calls, MUST explain what happens after said 12 months has expired. And not present the customer with a big bill.

Always nice to have a good rant. Preferably a really illogical rant, because it's more netertaining, but whatever. Anyway, phones. Yes right! Well. Terrible! You wouldn't believe it would you! They get away with murder those people! No sense of responsibility.....

Welcome Aclu You're a sociopath, Dippy. Now Dippy is a lot of things and we have all called him a lot of things, but think this is one we haven't called him. Dip how come we haven't seen this side of you before now? http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Actually Aclu he's one of the nicest people around here, but he talks funny sometimes and gets long winded a lot of times but otherwise he only gets cranky when Midnight disappears on him. Isn't that right Dipster? http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ok. Since you guys think this law needs to be tidied up a bit, I'll do just that.
If a company says that they will shut your services off on a certain date unless the bill is paid, then they can not shut off your services any sooner than the deadline they set. If said company shuts off services before the predetermined deadline, they must restore full service with no charge for the restoration, AND the unpaid bill must be canceled.
How's that? Easier to read now? I guess I won't try to write a new law when I'm upset with the cause for the law.

LOL ball. I got you the first time. That would be a great law and then you should get some kind of credit if they fail to turn it back on when they say they will. Had to wait four days after they told me they were hooking up my phone before they finally did once.
Welcome Xicana!
Aclu I guess we must have a word with Dipstick about watching it with newbies to this board. We are used to him and what he says even though it sounds like it isn't is most of the time a joke. I hope he finds a service soon as we really miss him around here, but when he gets back I'm sure he will tell you he was kidding with you.

im late, im late for a very important date! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/wink.gif
It is my first time posting here, im dawdling! Been very busy! Anyhoooo I have never had a problem with the phone Co. cause if theres a mandatory thing in our household its "Bills are paid ontime!!!" He just wont go for those shut off notices! Nope no way, not Jesse! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/tongue.gif
But for the law, VERY good one! I think it would be a great law, they need to be responsible and it seems they never are. They say one thing and do another..if its s'posed to be shut off a certain day, it should be shut off on the said day! No earlier, no LATER!
Aclu....chill out dude! Nobody round here hates you!!!

Just a suspicion, but couldn't you already get them for breach of contract. If they say "We'll cut you off if you don't pay by 30th June" and then cut you off on the 26th (for example,) you have a contract with them. For your part, you will pay by the 30th or have the service cut off, and for their part they will not cut you foo for non-payment until the 30th. If they cut you off before the 30th, they are in brach of that contract, so you can (try to) sue them http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif

Aclu, I don't hate you at all at all at all. You..... amuse me. Sometimes you say things that make me smile, but when you say things, negative things, however indirectly, about Massive Attack (who are the greatest band ever to grace this small and not unlovely planet we all have to share (with the possible exception of Portishead)) then I'm bound to take exception and "educate" you. You are young. That's OK, it's not your fault. I take back the 'one-syllable' accusation. What does 'sociopath' mean? Nobody has ever called me that. I love people. They're great.

Portishead is:
a) a town is SW England near Bristol.
b) a radio thingy you phone up if you want to talk to someone on a ship.
errrr....what was the other one again? Darn, I always forget the third one.....errrr...oh yeah!
c) some Indy band type thing which Dippy probably meant.

Ok. This topic got off topic for a little while. Now then. Back to the phone rants.
If a married couple puts the bills in only one of their names, the spouse should still be allowed to pay & have service restored even if the one who's got the bill in their name is not present. For example, let's say the husband has the phone bill in his name, the bill is not paid on time, and he goes out of town for a while. The phone will then get shut off of course. But under this law, the wife would be able to go & get service restored EVEN THOUGH her husband, who's the only one with his name on the bill, is out of town. Punishment for the company should they not allow the spouse to pay is having to give said couple free service for however long the service was denied. So let's say that in our example the company refused to allow the wife to pay. And the phone was disconnected for a week and a half. Said couple is now entitled to a week and a half of free service from said company.
What do y'all think? (This is a continuation of my rant that caused the original post.)

This is bizarre-in my neck of the woods, anyone can pay to have anyone's service restored, so long as the person paying has the proper account number and amount to restore service. For example, if my phone were turned off, a total stranger could have the service restored iif they had the money and account number.
If I were you, I'd get a hold of your state's Public Service Commission and see what they had to say. If that doesn't work, call your local legilator and propose a new law.

Thanks for the idea! Hmmm...that sounds like work though...however, when I've got time & energy, I just might get motivated enough to work on getting one or both of these things made into laws. So if any of you see these on your ballot when you're voting one of these days, please remember me, & all my hardwork & dedication to the site.
