It will be a criminal act to speak the words "At the end of the day...". Due to the fact that when people say this phrase they then go into a load of pscho-analysis babble. Not really knowing what they are talking about themselves. IT DRIVES ME MAD- AHHHH!
I think that this phrase stems from the Jerry Springer Show. For this reason alone it should be banned.

Did you ever hear Kevin Keegan giving a post-match interview, Zany?
"The lads gave 110% for the full 90 minutes, but at the end of the day the clock's still ticking on the wall..."

Enforcer - have to disagree with ya. Never heard anyone say anything intelligent after using THAT phrase. (*thinks*.Wow I get irritated just thinking about it!) -I'm sure people only use it because they can't think of anything else to say (it fills in the durrrr).
and cheers Dippy (that's what they call ya -right?) I think the Interesting Kevin quote illustrates my point exactly! Got to admit though I normally switch off when Keegan starts talking. Not that into football really. Sorry.

But at the end of the day, does it make such a heck of a difference whether you say "at the end of the day" or not? That's what I think. Both in the morning, in the afternoon and at the end of the day......

It probably doesn't make much of a difference to most people. Cos I think most people use that phrase. I do not. It is one of my pet hates. Do you have any pet hates Phreak?
(Soz if i didn't understand you fully- long day at work. v. confused and tired).

*hmmms* in theory I absolutely agree with your little proposition however I often use the phrase in a litteral sense E.g "at the end of the day I'm going to have a good lie down" or "at the end of the day I'm gonna have that well deserved bourbon" or my favorite "at the end of the day, hour or 30 seconds I'm going to slap you across the head if you dont shut up about your boyfriend"...and so on....
I must ensure this particular use of the phrase is allowed before I lobby for your law dear.

ok lis, point taken.
AMENDMENT 1.1 I HEREBY RECOGNISE AND AMEND THAT THE PHRASE "AT THE END OF THE DAY" CAN BE USED ONLY IN THE LITERAL SENSE:-"I WILL SPEAK TO YOU AT THE END OF THE DAY" WILL NO LONGER BE A CRIMINAL OFFENCE (OFFENSE-FOR AMERICANS).
1.2 THE LAW STILL REMAINS IF AN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD SPEAK THESE WORDS IN A NON-LITERAL SENSE AND ESPECIALLY IN MORE SERIOUS CASES OF HOME-PSYCHOLOGIST.( THAT IS TO ANALYSE SOMEONE WHEN NOT HAVING THE NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS), FOR EXAMPLE "AT THE END OF THE DAY IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO HIS HORRIFIC NERVOUS TWITCH".
1.3 IT WILL ALSO BE AN OFFENCE ALBEIT SLIGHTLY LESSER FOR A QUALIFIED PSYCHIATRIST TO USE THE ABOVE PHRASE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION.
HERE ENDS THE ALTERATIONS 15/06/02

In the final analysis, after all is said and done, when all the votes are in, when the jury comes back, after the seventh trump blows, "at the end of the day" is just another dependent clause.
