WASHINGTON, March 5 — In a sharp departure from its past insistence on the sanctity of medical records, the Bush administration has set forth a new, more limited view of privacy rights as it tries to force hospitals and clinics to turn over records of hundreds and perhaps thousands of abortions.

Federal law "does not recognize a physician-patient privilege," the Justice Department said last month in court papers that sought abortion records from Planned Parenthood clinics in California, Kansas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, New York City and Washington. Moreover, the department said in another abortion case, patients "no longer possess a reasonable expectation that their histories will remain completely confidential."

"Administration Sets Forth a Limited View on Privacy". My my, what a nice polite way of putting it.

I was doing some of my goferly copy machine duties at work the other day and what do I come across buried in a real estate closing package:

USA PATRIOT ACT RULES

THIS ACCOUNT WILL BE RECORDED FOR USE BY THE HOMELAND SECURITY DEPARTMENT. THIS IS REQUIRED BY LAW.

I swear, my blood ran cold just seeing that.

Don't commit crimes against the USA and all will be OK. Nothing to worry about. On the other hand if you are a terrorist that is trying to establish a residence in the United States, you should be very afraid..:smash

ACLU news flash, Real Estate closing records are OPEN public records and always have been.. You need to find something else to make your BLOOD RUN COLD..

Quote from w1che about Tig's stupid thread.. Why don't you tell the folks that no patient name, address or other information would be on the records, or don't you want them to know that importent piece of info?

You do know what the government wanted records for don't you? If you do, how many thousands of records would that be in less than a year?
