View Full Version : Election in Denmark

It is indeed a sad day for Denmark. Yesterdays election for the government gave the right wing party "Danish Peoples Party" almost 15% of the votes. The Danish Peoples party is extremely nationalisticand intolerant towards foreigners and can easily be compared to austrias Freiheitspartei with Jörg Haider, who the most europeans probably know.
The government changed from a Socialdemocratic (democratic) to a liberal/conservative (republican).
But the government will be very hostile and intolerant towards foreigners because they have to base their power on the Danish peoples party.
Right now I am ashamed to be danish.

Why would you say that happened, Sjax? Does Denmark have an asylum seeker problem? That's been one of the biggest news stories in the UK over the last year or two, even though asylum seekers cost the British taxpayers next to nothing.

A liberal/conservative government usually doesn't mean to be intolerant towards foreigners. Admittedly I don't know anything about Denmarks problems, but how does this DPP express its hostility? According Haider I can only repeat what I have said several times: I always hear that he is hostile to foreigners by the media, but nobody could give me an example yet. I am afraid that this is quite a campaign by the very left media here.

Serendipity: Denmark has, in my opinion, no asylum seeker problem. I think it is very much the same situation as in England: They cost us next to nothing, but some of the medias make it seem like a problem. The DPP has taken advantage of this. They are very populistic.
Ogb: I cant give you an example of Haiders intolerance right now, but I can certainly give you some examples of DPPs: The leader og the party said that the real culture in Denmark is christianity and that islam should be fought. They want to pass a law saying that foreigners cannot be married to a man/woman from the land of their origin in Denmark.
Aclu: I voted for the Socialistic Peoples Party. I know that socialism has a bad reputation in USA, but it has nothing to do with the former USSR.
Their top priorities is that the environment should be better, and that the weakest people in the society should be helped. Among the weakest people is some of the foreigners, especially the fugitives.
I am a member of the party, by the way.

The marriage thing is indeed racist and also that the islam should be fought. For sure christianity is base of the western culture, but I guess we had enough religious battles so that everyone meanwhile should know better.

If christianity is the base of western culture, should we stop seeing Japan as a western country then?

A lot of people do, based on the structure of politics and the structure of the economy. And demography.

Culturally though, you have to admit that Japan is not western.
