Yes and no.
It's in the person's interest to have him or her follow education, of whatever nature.
Besides that, it's in all our interest, that we maintain a high level of education, for a durable economy and society.
Problem is however, that some people are already ready for a job when they're like 15 or 16. I think up to 16 it should be mandatory, and between 16 and 18 more or less voluntarily.

I think most states only require kids to be in school until 16 or 17.

OH well that's debatable for sure. Well I think what their doing in Florida now just sucks. If you don't go to school you don't get a drivers license. Seems now their using our drivers license to make us or not make us do a lot of things.
My son quit school at 17 now he regrets it and had to take the GED so if it's mandatory and you break it, just another dumb law they will have to come up with to enforce it so no I don't think it should be mandatory.

You can force someone to stay in school, but you can't force them to learn if they don't want to. I have to say no...

Don't know what the law is in NJ
Most classes are generally pretty worthless. They should have classes on how to keep your checkbook balanced, what you should do if you're in debt, and man, schools HAVE to do SOMETHING about that pitiful class they call sex ed.
There are some topics about whether the SAT should be mandatory as well.

Currently the rate of truancy in the City of Milwaukee's public schools is a staggering 40%, so mandatory attendance isn't making anyone go.
Some of the "solutions" floated for this problem include suspending driver's licenses, which has stopped no one from driving. Or even revoking work permits for those who don't attend school, which frankly doesn't seem that brilliant.
Given how some of these schools are run, a kid just might be better off getting a GED, an analogy no one really wants to deal with. But this much I know for sure: the money used for education needs to be spent on the kids who want to be there, not on those who don't want to. Most when they realize that a lack of education is a barrier will return to school anyway, just as I did.

Well,Phreak, that's not quite correct,I think,
School is mandatory 'till your eightteen, 'cept when you turn sixteen, it's only for two more days in the week, so you can get a different kind of school
I'm supposed to be in school right now LOL http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif LOL

Well, then what if you happen to graduate at the age of 16? (I know people who have)
