I called XXXX cable company the oter day to look into getting cable internet as my dialup is unreliable at best.

They have 3 different levels of service. The slowest speed, 256 k download speed is 29.95 a month. Not bad, Just a little more than what my dialup cost me at some 5 times the speed. Heres tre kicker though. They ALSO want to charge me an EXTRA 20 a month for the privelege of NOT having cable TV. I have Sat tv, I don't NEED Cable tv. I have no desire to have cable TV put in. So, and extra 240 dollars a year for nothing.
Can you say Ripoff?

Soooo... That seems daft, but why don't you get cable TV and just not watch it, if it saves you $20 a month? Or did I miss something? Do you have to pay an installation fee up front for it or something?

Thats still tentamount to paying for something I won't use. I have a perfectly usable sat box sitting on my television right now and I get more channels and better reliability for less money than what the cable company has for its television. Does anyone go to a car dealership and pay for cars they don't drive? Do you pay for others gas every time you fill your car too?
They didn't say whether there was an installation charge. I have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is they want me to pay an extra 20 dollars a month for absolutly nothing.
Since when does a person/company charge for no services? Isn't that considered fraud when you get nothing for monies paid? What is the extra 20 dollars for?

One of the cable companies in my area offers the same kind of deal...

$50 a month for cable modem usage if you don't subscribe to their phone or cable TV...

$40 a month for cable modem usage if you subscribe to phone or cable TV...

$30 a month if you subscribe to all three

BJ, I just re-read your 1st post. How much would a TV + cable modem package cost?
