OK here is a little bit more information on the "pickle suit".now I am not 100% posotive at the truth of this but I heard that the woman who burned her mouth on a sliced pickle (that was in her hamburger http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif )
also sued because she could'nt have oral sex with her husband because of the burn!So it wasnt just the burn that she sued for it was sexual anguish or whatever you would call that!

Saint, these laws aren't enforced, they just sit in the books waiting to be removed.

There are more and more law suits that involve sex and I bet if the truth was known they didn't have sex that much anyway.

Before my divorce we were in the laundromat business and this stupid woman was taking her clothes in and out of the washer and slopped water on the floor and then she slipped in her own mess and sued us for it. Something like she couldn't enjoy her grand children or some garbage. Anyway she was suing us for something like half a million dollars. Think the insurance com finally gave the b*tch $30,000 and of course they cancelled our insurance. They like our premiums but sure don't like paying a claim.

The thing in the northeast use to be sue a town or city because you slipped on a patch of ice in front of city hall. Most judges today throw these suits out because they say you should watch where you're going. If the whole walkway is covered in ice, that's another story because that shows neglect

We have a funny legal situation over here (UK), if somebody slips on snow/ice on the pavement (OK, sidewalk) outside your property after you've cleared it, you can be sued, but if you've left it alone you cannot.

About that "pickle suit" thing, I'm sorry, I just can't hold it in. Is she absolutely sure that it was the pickle in the sandwich tht burned her mouth or the "other" one? http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

How does that song go, Arlo Guthrie, I think:
"I don't want a pickle..."? http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, "sexual anguish" or whatever? Is it her that's bringing the charge or her husband...? Mind you, if he couldn't go down on her either, then that really was a hot pickle... Ouch! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Our own Paulgro had a post under State Laws back in December called "Conecticut" that dealt with regulating pickle elasticity. Paulgro's familiarity with pickle specification guidelines has therefore been documented. However, he seems to be steering the current topic away from the core issues, to wit:
* can a pickle sour your sex life? or
* does this lawsuit suck?
I suspect that Paulgro has been subpoenaed as an expert witness in this lawsuit and is avoiding a serious discussion, under court order.

The strange part to me is that the pickle actually got so hot that it left a burn mark on her lip! How hot can a pickle get? Anybody?
Wheres brainy smurf?
I just don't see how the pickle could have gotten hot unless they cooked the pickle.
When i make hamburgers I don't cook the pickle I put the pickle on after the meat is already on there.
I could see where the pickle might have gotten hot from the burger but not hot enough to actually leave a burn mark on someones face?!

Thank you, and I'm obliged for your patience. This kind of thing takes some hefty research, you know. My laboratories have been heaving with pickles, hamburgers, and the like for the past year. It's been a messy, greasy business, but at least it smells better than ammonium hydroxide.

The conclusion? Well, you're not going to get it without hearing the science first: Heat can only be conveyed to a pickle in a burger by conduction, that is to say, the pickle is in contact with something hot and thus becomes hot itself (I could go on about molecules vibrating faster and all that, but you'd lose interest). Since a pickle is cold when it's added to a burger, it reduces the heat of whatever is heating it, in this case that sludgy brown thing (SBT) that you get in the middle of burgers. The SBT would therefore cool at a rate inversely proportional to the rate the pickle gets hot, bearing in mind the difference in mass between the SBT and the pickle, assuming that the contact area of the pickle is around the 50% mark. The SBT has other demands on its latent heat - the bread, the rest of the salad, any of that foul melty yellow rubber stuff that you get, and the air surrounding the burger.

A pickle's latent heat capacity and its ability to scald depends on its water content. Not enough water and there is no way that it could - in turn - transfer heat to anybody's mouth. Clearly it had not had time to evaporate. If the woman's mouth was scalded by the pickle, then it had had no time to cool. So I should guess that the woman bought the burger and shoved it into her mouth. She was brought up wrong. Her ma should have showed her how to eat properly, then this whole sorry mess would never have happened.

If I may digress a little, this (http://www.wired.com/news/meanwhile/0,1252,0-2000~1,00.html) (scroll down 1/3 of the page) may amuse some of you:
Those of you who have seen the movie American Pie will no doubt recall the infamous "pie scene." Well, young Dwight Emburger must have seen it, since he attempted a faithful reenactment with a freshly baked apple pie. Unfortunately for the Idaho teenager, the pie was a little too freshly baked; Master Emburger wound up in the hospital with a badly burned !%!%!%!%!%. "This demonstrates that producers should consider the effects their films have on young and impressionable people," a hospital spokesman said. Not to mention stupid people.
