There's a classic scam that seems to emanate from Nigeria. It works like this: Nigerian bids on an item on, eg, Ebay, such as a mobile phone or piece of IT hardware. Nigerian then sends a cheque for more than the amount agreed. Seller then refunds the excess to Nigerian, and in the meantime the original cheque is bogus and doesn't clear. Nigerian gets phone/whatever + the excess.
Some people are wise to this.
Here's a story of one such trade, involving a Nigerian or three, a computer trader, and a bunch of, ahem, top-of-the-range Anus laptops...
The Great Anus Ripoff (http://thescambaiter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109) *Warning: Some strong language*
Enjoy - it's a long read, so settle back, but like all good stories, you won't want to stop until the end. Priceless!

Darn, too long for me. But the first 18 pages are hysterical!
And I love the Anus Laptops slogans. As this is a "family" board, I won't repeat them here...
Thanks!

:lol a good switch on the scam artist. Unfortunatly you are just taking your chances either way, but usually the buyer gets frauded. Glad this was reversed. A friend of mine bought a couple of big fish tanks off of ebay. She sent a money order but never got the tanks, something like over $400 I think it was.

P.S. I didn't read the whole thing either. How did it end Dip? Did Wilson get deaded?:lol

My guess is that Cole wasn't being altogether honest about his connections with the Governor or with the Clique Mob (or anything else), so I don't think Wilson did get deaded in the end.

:lol
I was just wondering how the scam ever ended, but it was weird that Cole had pictures of Wilson's house. I skipped to the end but it wasn't Wilson talking on the last posts.

Cole didn't have pictures of Wilson's house, that was just a made-up gag. Cole had absolutely nothing on Wilson, not even his real name.
"Wilson" had pictures of Cole's house tho'. :lol

Oh ok well I took it as real the way he said it.
Also something happened to me when I was selling antiques online. I sold a couple of novilty*sic* phones to someone in Sweden I think it was. They gave me their credit card it cleared so I sent the phones. After the arses got the phones, we got a denial to pay the credit card saying the purchase was not authorized by the one who used the card. I sent the credit card company the emails I had received where they gave me their credit card and still me and my partner never got paid for them. I did write the auction site and informed them of this scammer. I couldn't believe they got by with that but it was an overseas credit card company. Maybe part of the scam also. hmmmm didn't think of that till now or I would have wrote their government about it. Anyway now I look at their ratings and comments from their buyers or sellers when I sell or buy online which anymore is very rare.

I skipped a lot, but towards the end he persuaded the now-desperate scammer that the only way he was going to get any money was to pose for photographs with bits of card saying...well, whatever the anti-scam guy asked him for, really. They had a lot of fun with that. One of my favourite part of the whole thing was the "illustrations" that the other forum members produced to accompany the scammers increasingly bizarre death threats and stories. Some brilliant Photoshopping in there. You definitely couldn't make this stuff up.
