I dont know if you already saw the story on 60 minutes, but I foun it quite interesting. You can read about it here:

If they could do this with Shang-hai in ten years, think about what they can do with the rest of the country in, say, 50 years.
Ok, I thought I knew how to post a link. Apparently not. I hope noone saw that.

Sounds like it's steralized. In China maybe it will work, something needs to.

Thanks Idnew. I believe that it has been shown before, but I guess I'm a slow learner.
I heard a historian a couple of years ago, who thought that in 50 years from now, China will be the worlds new superpower, and will take over from USA. I dont know if I should be scared og happy.

Despite the immense poverty of China, the country has (in absolute numbers) a larger middle class than the US. Its consumption is keeping the world economy afloat. China's economy is still growing at 7% annually and is expected to do so for at least another 15 years.
As we in the west squabble about fixing pot holes in the road, China is engaged in some of the largest construction projects in all of world history. Shanghai is just the tip of the iceberg. Try the Three Gorges Dam Project.
China is encouraging a western migration. The key is that they have a national will to get things done!

I concede that the dam project is a monumental undertaking, but it is being done with 50 year old technology and not as efficient as it could be. You can get away with this when you have such a vast populous to draw from AND a very limited welfare system. The US has slipped to allow people to ride welfare instead of work. And to think that welfare is a true Socialist idea! It will take another generation and a few hard knocks for the US to realize this. China is moving towards Capitalism and a free market economy (at their own agonizing snail pace) while the US heads towards more people on "the public dole" than people working and tax-supporting the country. Note: Anybody that has ever received welfare (food stamps, public assistance, sect.8 housing, free or reduced lunches at school, WIC, etc.) may not reply because you are a Socialist. A parasite whose very existance depends on the sweat and toil of others whilst you watch Springer and Judge Judy.

Hey, the labour is cheap and it isnt like they are going to run out of people who are willing to work anytime soon. Nobody builds buildings the same as China, bamboo sticks and green netting may not be extremely attractive but it works and saves money.

The place is just so far out that they have the opportunity to improve in so many ways. I dont really keep up with News and what happens anywhere but I heard their importing and exporting is improving and attracting the normal shipments made through HK by being lots cheaper. My family have been pondering what will happen to HK in the future and it hasnt been looking bright.
