I didn't know whether to put it here or under Everything Else. I decided to put it here.

This is not about Dumb Criminals tho. This is about a dumb investigation in criminals. The police department in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, did a research on crime in the city. They checked 250 robbers. Their conclusion was, that of the criminals in Rotterdam, 99% was an immigrant.

First of all, that would mean that out of those 250 criminals, only 2 were Dutch. Now why have I got problems believing that?
And secondly, does that say anything about crime rates in general????

1) You have problems believing that because it's very probably not true.

2) It says that you can prove anything with statistics.

Is it possible that these statistics are from only one part of Rotterdam, that is a neighborhood where immigrants are the predominate population? If that's the case, then it is possible that the stat was improperly read. I just can't see 99% of the crime in a major city being committed by one group,, though.

Since they checked only 250 criminals it can't be that simple. What you're saying could be interpreted as that there are only 250 criminals in Rotterdam, which I have a really hard time believing.. some method of selecting those 250 out of the whole bunch has to have been used. Then why not the part of Rotterdam with only immigrants?

Go to Rinkeby in Stockholm and you'll get a statistic that 1% of the people in Sweden speak Swedish as their mother language and unemployment in Sweden is like 80% or something...(I pulled these numbers from my hat, so don't get stuck on them)

It's just like the statistics that prove all Finns carry knives. They interviewed people in a finshing village.. reliable statistics, huh? True story btw, I just don't remember the whole thing but as I recall it got as far as international news....

No standalone statistics numbers are worth one cent (EU cent, mind you :) without the context of how the statistics were made.
