Some of those sentences are more a slap on the wrist...

What the he11 is the difference between "gross rape" and"rape"?
Or "gross arson" and "arson"?
Is it a matter of subjectivity?

Maybe this is where the Euros get their slanted ideas on American crime. WE call a crime a crime. WE don't quantify it. So I guess this is how Phreak gets his idea that crime is so rampent in the US. Maybe the assasination in Amsterdam on May 5-6 would be considered a "gross mugging"? Maybe the school shooting 60 miles south of Amsterdam would be called a "gross misunderstanding", rather than murder.!

What makes rape gross? Finlands penal code says at rape is gross rape if you are using "extremly dangerous violence" or the victim is juvenile or if the rape is "especially humiliation" etc.

Ah, right you are! I thought about that after I posted. You are absolutely right. We quantify murder instead of rape and arson. Made me stop and think. Thanks for the brain-jogger, Kontulib.

This law of rape is really sick! I remember one case which raper got smaller punishment becuase this raped woman has dressed a miniskirt!! Unbeliavable.
I don't remember how this case ended, but it was sensation in Finnish media..

They use to try and use that for a defense here (U.S.) Some may still try. I don't care if a woman is walking down the street naked, it still doesn't give you the right to do what you want. I think the courts take that into account now...

In Italy that was actually the verdict of a judge: the woman wore jeans, so the jeans must have been taken off with her permission, otherwise they couldn't have been taken off at all, so the man didn't rape her, it was just plain voluntary sex............
[*No kidding*]
How voluntary would you take off your clothes with a knife at your throat or a gun against your head?
