What is with all of the laws about Elephants? "You cannot walk your elephant after dark" and what-not. Do we really ahve that many elephants here in the USA??!

Minnesota here. i guess so, cuz up north, it's illegal to walk your elephant down main street.

It probably had something to do with circus elephants. Maybe after the show, the trainer would take such for a walk on his neighbor's lawn!

Baraboo was the winter quarters for the Ringling Brothers Circus from about 1900 to 1930. I've got old postcards of camels, lions, giraffes, and lots of elephants being walked through the city streets for exercise. The Circus World Museum is still there and the lions roar every morning and the elephants make quite a racket at times too. It's pretty neat. They don't walk the animals through town anymore though.
