View Full Version : Actually Good Laws Found Dumb By Some People
June 23rd, 2002, 12:54 AM
In Indiana a "dumb law" is posted as:
* One man may not back into a parking spot becasue it prevents police officers from seeing the license plate.
This is true! In Indiana they don't have front licencse plates so... backing into a parking spot would prevent officers from seeing the license plate. It is actually a good, sensible law and should not be on this site.

All states should now require front and back plates to assist law enforcement officials in identifying terrorism and other criminal suspects.
It's still a bad law glossing over an even greater problem.

You can't expect Indiana to just change its law after all these years. It's just a fact that they don't require front license plates on Indiana registered cars. Therefore, the law has a purpose and should not be claimed dumb.

We need to fix it. That system is broken, and many things need to change in this day and age to make law enforcement smarter and more capable of protecting citizens.
Keep the law until a new system of dual plate display is initiated, that's my advice.

Well, a lot of the laws make a little more sence when explained, but thats not the point here.

Thing is, Indiana is NOT the only state that doesn't require front license plates. Maybe you don't live in one of those states but other people do and are fine. Besides, even if they did start requiring both front and back license plates it would be for newly bought cars and couldn't change the law for 50 years or so because registered cars with only rear license plates would still be legal.
The point that I'm trying to make is that the law for that state and others is not stupid and cannot be considered so untill a long and messy process ensues which, in the long run, won't be worth the trouble.:( :wave :wave :clap :clap :clap

We've had to make many changes in law and policy due to recent terrorist threats, and reissuing front and rear license plates, with an added registration fee to cover costs if necessary, is another way to aid law enforcement without placing much burden on citizens.
We could even set up a plate factory in Guantanamo Bay and let some of those responsible for increased concerns work to lower them.
The band-aid is the law, the wound is the single plate. Heal the wound so you can remove the band-aid.

Geez Stormy, gettin a little worked up about this whole license plate thing arent ya?
How is having a single license plate a wound???   I mean seriously! How can you consider it a wound??? Obviously you're fine with how the government runs things by you saying they should pass a(nother) law. So, why don't you just get off their backs and agree that this law is a good law?:p :p :clap

I was using the wound as an analogy to fixing the root problem, and not by covering it up with a law. The root problem is in not having visual plate access to both ends of vehicles. The resulting condition is that you cannot back into a parking space.
If your root problem is asthma, the resulting condition may be that you can only take half a breath each time you breathe. The solution is not to keep taking half a breath each time, but to obtain the correct medication for your condition so that you can breathe without restriction.
In this case, another license plate would be the best medicine.
