Given the spate of places you read about such tomfoolery, it is obvious that people love to read about the really stupid laws that some jurisdictions have chosen to pass through the years. Well, today, let's talk about one of those silly statutes that was enforced.
Seems the leaders of Sonora, California passed an ordinance making it a misdemeanor to tease an on-duty police dog. As if those canines can't take care of themselves.
Anyway, on this date in 1982, a fellow by the name of Russell McBride found out the town's leaders were serious. He was arrested for barking at a police dog, on-duty of course, who went by the name of Sarge.
