An elderly aquaintance wants to give me power of attorney, so that I can take care of certain things for her in case she becomes sick or otherwise incapable of taking care of them herself.
Before I go ahead with this, I would like to find out what I am getting myself into. Since this is in large part a forum about legal stuff, I'm assuming I'm in the right place to ask.
I have ablsolutely no idea how this would work. Where do you go to get/give power of attorney? Do you have to hire a lawyer? If so, is it costly? Who would be responsible for the fee, my elderly friend, or I? Are there any hidden risks or responsibilities that I should know about before I accept the responsibility?
Hoping someone can give me some answers. Any advise will be appreciated.
