Junk dealer won't be fenced in by rules
Associated Press
MENTZ, N.Y. -- Town officials wanted a fence, so junkyard owner Gene Crandall gave them one to remember -- a quarter-mile long chain of junked cars, stacked three and four high.
Mad about a 3-year-old order to fence his auto junkyard and local officials' efforts to shut his business down, Crandall put up the chain of junked cars.
The fence features a colorful assortment of makes and models: pickups, convertibles, vans and sedans, most without tires.
Town officials aren't pleased.
The town's attorney said the crushed cars violate local law and create a health risk. The newly elected town supervisor said he just wants the feud over with, noting that the town has paid more than $40,000 in legal expenses.

Reminds me of a guy I once knew. He ran a small service shop out of his home and had a few junked cars in his back yard. (This is out in the country). His back yard faced towards a freeway (over 1000 meters away). The county told him to clean up his junked cars because they could be seen from the freeway (barely!) and were an "eyesore."
What does he do? He buys two more junked cars and drags them out to the the fence right next to the freeway. 10+ years later the cars are still there! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Nobody likes looking at a bunch of junk cars cluttering up their property. Just let the weeds grow around 'em and cover them up.
You know you're a redneck when your house has wheels and the pickup truck in your front yard doesn't.

Are there specifications as to what type of fence is allowable? Was he told "put up a fence" ? Did they tell him what was acceptable?
If not, then he gave them what they wanted, a fence.

Good for him http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Now if I saw that as a fence I'd probably think it was pretty neat.

A man in oregon is protesting the new jail built near (across the street from?) his property. All attempts to work with the city failed, and a competing businessman was his supposed conflict resolution liason. After it ruined his property values, his business and apparently some of his life.
His only outlet for his frustration is planting large yellow school buses on their ends on his property and his neighbors' property. The engines and fluids have been removed so no waste disposal or environmental laws are being violated.
*grin* Its beautiful piece of civil disobediance within the confines of the law.
