View Full Version : New Georgia Flag
February 20th, 2001, 05:45 PM
A few weeks ago Georgia made it official: the old state flag which contained the state emblem and the old confederate flag together will be replaced with a new flag. This new flag is purple with the 5 flags of Georgia's history at the bottom. Personally, this flag looks somewhat ugly and lacks the symbolic meanings of most flags, but the lawmakers felt pressure to change it after South Carolina made headlines when the NAACP boycotted the state due to its flag. What do you guys think?

I think it's nonsense. From what I read when the average person (black) was asked if the flag should be changed they said no. It's a part of their history, putting up a new flag will not change that.

I also think it's stupid letting the NAACP put so much pressure to make the states give in to history. The blacks around here also had no objection to the SC flag or the confererate flag in general. We have them flying all over the place around here. When this first came out a string of people got in their cars carrying the confederate flag and paraded through the streets with them. There wasn't any riots are anything.

i had a friend that had a confederate flag on the bottom of it it said haretige not hatered(:§
it is part of history noone can change that
it is just the naacp when they where started they need that kinda thing but not nowthere are some states that dislikes poeple of another culture
but u have to attack those states one by one not all the states.
i should say parts of states
but let them do what they want to do long as it is not hurting our right to carry the confederate flag as a thing on one of my proporties

Speaking as someone who lives Up North, I have to wonder what the big deal is about Confederate flags? If you let the design of a flag ruin your life, you truly need help.
Perhaps my last statement was a bit too harsh, but the NAACP needs to realize something: the vast majority of white southerners see the confederate flag as a symbol of their heritage, not a means to oppress minorities. And why would folks down south latch on to a symbol? Really, look how this culture treats them: If you're from the South, you're an idiot according to the current cultural wisdom. And many so-called intellectuals say so out loud in the print and broadcast media.
I also find it most hypocritical when white folk in all white suburbs complain about how the confederate flag is a symbol of hate, but blissfully ignore all the "traffic stops" of black motorists in their own community. (In suburban Miwaukee, I observed this). On that note, let me share with the southerners out there a secret about northern conferderate flag opponents: a lot of them are afraid to come to my neighborhood because it's half black! http://www.dumblaws.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

The civic war had very little to do with slavery. The north got everything and the south got nothing that was the main reason. The south had two flags, battle flag which people call the confederate flag (stars and bars). The other had three stripes red white red blue field with thirteen stars.

The way I see it, none of the whites really paid much attention to the confederate flag in GA, SC, MS, etc, until there was pressure to change it. All of the sudden, something that had stood for all their lives was in jeopardy, and to prevent change, they opposed it. There is no hatred or any other nonsense tied to the flag, it is merely tradition, and to forcefully change one's traditions is dynamite with the fuse lit.

Alright guys being a life long resident of Georgia and living downtown while attending school I can add my input.
First it pisses me off that they did change it and b/c of all the bull**** I hear from the NAACP all the ****ing time. I'm tired of hearing that the Civil War was about slavery because it wasnt!!!!! Good Ole Abe had some slaves of his own. Second not every black man in the south was a slave then also. The Civil War was about the Southern colonies being independant of the North and of each other. You got to remember the State courts where the Major influence then.
The confederate flag is not a symbol of slavery it is a symbol of a free and independant South. Just like what our national Flag today it, Free and independant Nation.
Oh yeah the new flag is blue not purple and it has 13 yellow gold stars around it I think.
But the big **** Kicker, the reason for the change is because, are you ready....
The 2002 NCAA Final Four is to be played in Atlanta and the NCAA was considering moving it because of the flag.
Now aint that some ****.

Welcome P3n. Yes it is B.S. My boyfriend is working in Georgia right now and he bought a T-shirt that has the confederate flag on the back with a list of the names of the people that had it removed. He has rebel stickers on his windshield and somebody busted his license plate flag tag, so he got another one. It is really sad that our officials are so stupid so Georgia remember that next election.
